Si è svolta ieri l’asta di beneficenza The 11th Hour, con opere di Grotjahn, Fanzhi, Peyton e altri.
La vendita ha riguardato 33 opere di importanti artisti contemporanei, molte delle quali create appositamente per questa causa. 9 opere d’arte sono state vendute per oltre un milione di dollari, con molti lotti realizzando ben oltre le loro stime di pre-vendita.
Tra i record, l’opera Untitled di Mark Grotjahn è stata battuta per 6.5 milioni, mentre Zeng Fanzhi di The Tiger ha raccolto $ 5 milioni. Gran parte del ricavato sarà devoluta per questioni ambientali, alle quali la Fondazione Leonardo DiCaprio lavora dal 1998. I fondi raccolti beneficeranno progetti di conservazione innovativi che aiuteranno proteggere gli ultimi luoghi selvaggi della terra, le specie in via di estinzione che li abitano, e le comunità circostanti il cui benessere dipende da loro.
